Maintain your certification as a Compassionate Inquiry® Practitioner through continued clinical practice, mentoring or supervision, Continuing Education credits, and a Certification Renewal session.
Certification Renewal is required every three years to keep your practitioner designation and listing active.
Certification Renewal is for Certified Compassionate Inquiry® Practitioners who have completed the Compassionate Inquiry® Professional Training, completed the Mentorship Program, and received certification as a Compassionate Inquiry® Practitioner.
Your initial certification is valid for three years from the date listed on your certificate. Before this three-year period ends, you will be invited to renew your certification. Automated reminder emails will be sent as your renewal date approaches.
To maintain your certification and practitioner listing, please submit your renewal documents and fee at least six weeks before the expiration date listed on your certificate.
Late submissions may miss the renewal window and may result in your listing being removed from the Compassionate Inquiry® website.

Clinical Practice and Supervision
During each three-year Certification Renewal period, you must complete at least 150 clinical practice hours and 12 supervision or mentoring sessions.
At least 2 supervision or mentoring sessions each year must be with an approved Compassionate Inquiry® Mentor. Each of these sessions requires a 30–50 minute video submission recorded in Gallery View.
Group mentoring sessions with a Compassionate Inquiry® Mentor may count toward this requirement when at least 40 minutes are dedicated to your video and your interaction with the Mentor.
The remaining supervision or mentoring sessions may be completed with either an approved Compassionate Inquiry® Mentor or a clinical supervisor who is not trained in Compassionate Inquiry®.
Alternative Pathway for Certification Renewal
As an alternative to the supervision and mentoring requirements above, you may complete the 6-month Compassionate Inquiry® Mentorship Program during the 12-month period before your certification expires.
If your Mentor confirms that your work is certifiable, the Mentorship Program may replace the supervision and mentoring requirements.
You must still complete and submit documentation for:
- 150 clinical practice hours
- 30 Continuing Education credits
- Payment of the $280 CAD Certification Renewal fee, subject to change

Certification Renewal Process
Before your Certification Renewal session, the Certification Coordinator will review your submission to confirm that all required documents and fees have been received.
A Certification Reviewer or Mentor from the Mentorship Program will then be assigned to your renewal file. The Certification Coordinator will provide the assigned reviewer or Mentor with access to your submission folder.
Your assigned reviewer or Mentor will contact you to arrange your Certification Renewal session within four weeks, ideally within two weeks. If you cannot arrange a suitable date and time, the Certification Coordinator will assign another reviewer or Mentor.
The Certification Renewal session lasts 1 hour and 20 minutes.
At the beginning of the session, you and your reviewer or Mentor will decide together:
- The speed at which you would like to watch the video.
- Whether to watch selected sections of the video or the full session.
- Whether to pause and comment after short intervals or watch the full recording before commenting.
During the session, you and your reviewer or Mentor will discuss what worked well, what could be done differently, and any questions or comments included in your self-reflection letter.
Your reviewer or Mentor will also review feedback from your previous mentoring sessions and your written reflection to note progress and potential areas for continued attention and growth.
During the session, you and your reviewer or Mentor will agree on any next steps. Your reviewer or Mentor will include at least three constructive points of feedback and at least seven positive feedback statements in writing in your folder during the session.
Who Reviews Your Certification Renewal
For your first Certification Renewal, a Certification Reviewer reviews your video.
For your second Certification Renewal three years later, a Mentor from the Mentorship Program reviews your video.
This rotation continues for future renewals so that at least two Compassionate Inquiry® Mentors or Reviewers oversee your work over time.
If a Mentor reviews your Certification Renewal, they must be a Mentor from the Mentorship Program who has not worked with you as a Mentor during the past three years. This helps avoid bias or conflict of interest.
If Additional Mentoring Is Required
If the Certification Renewal session indicates that your practice has drifted significantly from the Compassionate Inquiry® approach, you will be required to complete 1–5 mentoring sessions with a Compassionate Inquiry® Private Mentor within a four-month period before receiving a new certificate.
The final mentoring session must be with a Mentor from the Mentorship Program.
Your name will remain listed on the Compassionate Inquiry® website during this period and afterward, provided that a Mentor from the Mentorship Program approves your renewal in the final mentoring session.
If you are not approved by a Mentor and choose not to complete additional mentoring sessions, your listing will be removed from the Compassionate Inquiry® website.

Practitioners who do not renew by the expiration date listed on their certificate will have their listing removed from the Compassionate Inquiry® website.
