Nalini
My journey as a counselor began with the challenges I faced as an adoptive mother. I transitioned from viewing my child through a lens of judgment and shame to adopting a trauma-informed perspective, focusing on understanding her experiences rather than labeling what was wrong. This process revealed that I, too, had personal issues to address.
Embracing the Compassionate Inquiry approach, I came to believe in the transformative potential within each of us. My practice evolved from a cognitive-based modality to an embodied, felt-sense approach. This shift marked a transformation from merely doing therapy to truly being a therapist.
I’ve expanded my understanding through volunteering with various NGOs, working with migrant domestic workers, single parents, LGBTQ individuals struggling with addiction, families facing anxiety and depression, and patients with chronic pain and cancer.
To support my work, I practice Kundalini Yoga, engage in inner dialogue with emotions like shame, grief, and unworthiness, and maintain a journal. These practices help me stay connected to my inner life and enhance my ability to support my clients effectively.
