Recognizing and Working with Dissociation in Compassionate Inquiry Practice

We invite you to join our Workshop on Recognizing and Working with Dissociation in Compassionate Inquiry Practice with Ioana Dăncescu on Saturday, May 30, 2026 from 10am ET to 2:30pm ET (with a 30 minutes break).

This interactive workshop is an invitation to explore dissociation not just as a concept, but as a lived experience. Together, during this 4 hours workshop, we will deepen our understanding of how dissociation shows up in ourselves and in our clients, how we can recognize its subtle and overt forms, and how to meet it with attunement, curiosity, and compassion, in ways that support safety, integration, and healing.

I also want to bring something personal into this space. For me, dissociation has not only been a topic of study, but a lifelong companion: a challenge, a teacher, and, in many ways, a doorway. If I were to name it simply, I would say that dissociation has often felt like a lack of relationship, with myself and with the world.

This is what brings me here, with the intention of sharing this inquiry and knowledge together. To gently become aware of the many ways dissociation can show up in our lives and our work, and to support each other in cultivating a more grounded, present, and connected way of being with ourselves and our clients.

Event Information

Learning Objectives

Over the course of this 4.5 hour experiential workshop (including a 30-minute break), I will invite you to:

  • Explore dissociation as a deeply human survival response, and gently recognize its spectrum: from everyday “zoning out” to trauma-related disconnection
  • Notice how dissociation shows up in your own experience, as well as in your clients, bringing curiosity to both the more obvious and the subtle signs
  • Become more attuned to the “language of dissociation”: in narratives, in the body, and in your own inner responses as a CI practitioner
  • Experience grounding and re-anchoring practices, in a way that feels safe and supportive, rather than forced or overwhelming
  • Take part in guided experiential exercises, including breakout room work, where you can explore these processes in a more personal and embodied way
  • Witness a live demonstration from my clinical work, offering a real example of how dissociation can be met within a CI session
  • Reflect on your own relationship with presence and disconnection, and how this awareness can support you in staying more regulated and connected in your practice
  • Integrate a compassionate understanding of parts, drawing from Structural Dissociation, IFS, and CI, when meeting dissociative dynamics

  • A refined sensitivity to what is not said, the subtle language of dissociation in the body, tone, and relational field
  • More ease and confidence in meeting dissociation, with curiosity and compassion instead of fear or urgency to “fix”
  • A deeper capacity to hold a “safe enough” space, where connection and integration can unfold naturally
  • A shared experiential space with CI practitioners worldwide, where learning happens through presence, not just information

I truly look forward to meeting you in this shared space, where we can gently turn toward what once needed distance, and begin to rediscover connection and compassion, within ourselves and with each other, one moment at a time.
